    hi.
    i don't play an instrument, so i don't wanna start a band.
i wouldn't want to perform my written songs on a recording or in a live setting, so i don't wanna be in a band.
but i think i do like to sing, and i would like to get over my stagefright.
and since i don't go to church, and could get on stage, it seems like a good option would be for a bunch of us to start a choir.
    just for fun.
    shitty singers welcome.
    it's GOOD to sing together.

    so i was thinking:
if we got together, and you brought a few of your favorite popular songs (that most people would know), along with lyrics
we could build a community choir. right?

like, once we gather 10-15-20 people, and we get together with the songs we bring we could work on singing together.
and "practice" once a week. (arts center?)
and perhaps "perform" once a month. (ed's?)
and only there'd be no Director, just input from the person who brought the song we're singing.
and when we're singing Poison's "Every Rose Has It's Thorn" or Pat Benetar's "Love is a Battlefield" everyone could find a way
to slip in something that makes it totally more awesomer.

basically, i just think it would be fun and healthy and a good thing for 2009.
we can chat on this forum for a while.
    ok?

ok, i brought this up at the wonderful super-duper delicious winona variety show...so more seeds are planted.
and ed, at ed's no-name bar, is now wayyy down with this...and his offered his space and drinks.
so, my question is...where should we take it from here?
(the song in my head right now is We Didn't Start The Fire by Billy Joel, by the way)

    contact me lorax2004@hotmail.com

or await further instructions, right here.
post your responses, or email me.

    thanks

This would be really cool. I haven't been in a choir for a while, and have had fantasies about non director orientated group singing. You say Let's all the Whole Thing Off! cause it's a marvelous night for a Moondance. We could use vocal percussion and instrument mimicking as well!

Wow, this sounds like fun. The people that were in the happy hootenanny would love this..Catherine Cleary...I will talk to her

crash test dummies are in my range...this is going to be awesome

Hi Adam, I haven't seen the article but I heard about your spill into the river. I am glad you are Alive

    to the above question:
    who knows?
my idea wasn't based on anything really, other than what i said above.
and so far, nothing "official" has happened, but people have expressed
interest through the grapevine. i bet there's a choir ready to go, right now.
i'm on the east coast for March, but if anyone wants to take the reigns,
i can pass along the names/contacts of those who are interested.
and Ed (no-name) i think would be eager to provide some practice space still.
contact me if you know how, or post your contact if you want.
(also, it should be noted that Kimya Dawson started a Community Choir in Olympia,
and i just saw some video of them practicing. not that i want Winona's to be like
    their's...but i like what i see/hear.)

    I GOT US A GIG!!!
but who are we? we haven't met/practiced?
    but we can/should.
Probably at the Arts Center or Ed's.
    why?
because the C+ Community Choir is going to be the "house band" for
the 2nd Super Duper Delicious Winona Variety Show!
which is Sat. Feb.13th and Sun. Feb.14th.

and this non-existent choir is MOST welcome.
we'll likely be singing the interludes between acts (20 in all),
so we need to practice portions of 20 different songs.
and the enthusiasm is high for those song selections to be
Corny Love Songs from the 80's and Power Ballads.
('cos it's Valentine's Day weekend after all)

anyway, finally a reason to practice.
a reason besides "Winter's here again"
(which is a good enough reason)

so, looking for potential members and ideas NOW
